Never Built


This graceful bridge, from New Jersey to Manhattan, won't look familiar to you, because it was never built. The precursor to the George Washington Bridge, this version was severely scaled down due to the Great Depression. The entire story is here:

Those are some gigantic bridge piers! reminds me of a less beautiful Brooklyn bridge.

That makes me think of one I have of the Golden Gate bridge under construction. It looks so odd and perilous just bits and pieces hanging across the span.

Interesting that this card exists showing what would never be.

Wow, they lost all the money building that bridge. Bridges fascinates me. Great architecture and great engineering building it. I wish someone will give this postcard to me. My entry for Postcard Friendship Friday is up - My PPF Entry.

Interesting how a postcard exists for a bridge that was never built. It could've been an impressive structure.

It does make me wonder how many other postcards are out there that were printed in anticipation of (or perhaps marketing for) things that were never to be!
