We Want You On Our Team

But we are not really talking about our football team, even though the big game is on Sunday.

This  card is a reminder to come to church, sent to boys of Sunday School age in the 1960's.  To generate excitement about the starting day of Sunday School, churches used "Rally Day" cards and many other cards like the ones above as subtle reminders to show up, if you know what's good for you.

Here's one of the older variety, a gem from the early 1900's:

I've posted a few others in the past, quickly accessed here:  http://blogaboutpostcards.blogspot.com/search/label/Rally%20Days

So, let's raise our hands to Rally Day, lest they get rapped on the knuckles by a Sister!

The Hunger Games

This is a great "rally" card, one of several hundred that churches could send to Sunday School students if they didn't show up. I have a lot of them in my collection, and a common thread is to induce guilt in the recipient for not doing their part.  The card above is typical.  With the recent popularity of the "Hunger Games" books and movie, however, this one is also a little creepy if you think about it for too long!

Here's an earlier post on the same topic:

See you Sunday, if you know what's good for you!

Dogs and Bees at Church

These postcards are the later versions of what were called "Rally Cards," which were sent out to religious school children to goad them into attending Sunday school.  I have lots of them going all the way back to the early 1900's, but these more recent ones, probably from the 1960's, are good examples of the chrome variety.  If the dogs and the bees are attending Sunday School, can't you at least show up too?
